The Big Red completely dominated the third set, which was the turning point of the match, as the visitors jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never looked back. Cornell eventually stretched the lead to seven points (12-5) on consecutive kills from Wong, Phelps, and
Kelly Marble, and Binghamton never pulled within six points the rest of the way.
The fourth set was tight early on, as the teams battled through six ties, with the last coming at 12-12 when Cornell got four unanswered points, including kills from D'Epagnier and Campbell to go along with a service ace from Young, to make it a 16-12 contest. The Big Red managed to maintain at least a three-point lead the rest of the way before closing the set on a 5-1 run to force a fifth set.
Cornell carried that momentum into the fifth set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a block from the duo of Hunt and Wilson, a kill by Hunt and a kill by Campbell. Moments later, another ace from Young made a 6-2 lead and the Big Red rolled to the 15-9 victory.
