ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell Men's Hockey team came up on the short end in a game of polarized special teams Saturday, dropping a 3-0 affair against Quinnipiac at Lynah Rink.

The Big Red had the first five power plays of the game, but couldn't convert to break a scoreless tie. No. 7/9 Quinnipiac (8-1, 2-0 ECAC Hockey) then had the next five power plays, leading to two goals on the man advantage before a late goal punctuated the Bobcats' eighth consecutive victory.

No. 14/15 Cornell (3-1, 1-1 ECAC Hockey) put 23 shots on Bobcats goalie Michael Garteig. Brian Ferlin set up Dustin Mowrey for a tip-in attempt from close range at 13:57 of the first period, but Garteig got his left skate to it. Quinnipiac's goalie then closed off a shot from Christian Hilbrich after he worked a give-and-go with Joel Lowry on a two-on-one early in the second period.

Quinnipiac responded with the winning goal on its first power play of the evening. Forward Connor Jones forced a shot from the bottom of the right circle under Cornell goalie Andy Iles at the 8:43 mark of the second period.

The Big Red then killed off a span of 1:28 on a two-man disadvantage spanning the second intermission, marking the 12th consecutive time the team has killed off a five-on-three situation.

But the Bobcats cashed in on their final power play of the game. Kellen Jones entered the zone on the right side and centered a pass that Jordan Samuels-Thomas touched on to Travis St. Denis toward the top of the left circle. He blasted a shot over Iles' left shoulder, giving Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead with 10:10 to play. Matthew Peca capped the scoring with 2:02 remaining.

Iles made 20 saves for the Big Red, making his 74th consecutive start.

Cornell hits the road for its next four games, starting with a matchup at 7 p.m. Friday at Clarkson. The Big Red travels to St. Lawrence the following night.
