Volleyball Swept At Princeton

Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. – The Big Red volleyball team fell in straight sets this evening at Princeton, 27-25, 25-21, 25-13. With the loss, Cornell falls to 7-13 overall and 3-7 in the Ivy League.

For the second night in a row, sophomore outside hitter Breanna Wong had a brilliant performance, finishing with 17 kills and just one error on 28 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. She also added five digs and two blocks (one solo). Senior middle hitter Rachel D'Epagnier also hit better than .500, registering seven kills and just one error on 11 attempts (.545), while freshmen Sarah Kramer and Grayce Campbell finished with six kills apiece.

Setter Alyssa Phelps filled out the stat line with 30 assists, four digs, four block assists and three kills on six attempts with no errors (.500), while junior libero Natasha Rowland finished with a match-high eight digs.

Offense was the highlight, with Princeton hitting .355 on the night, while the Big Red finished at .289. Cornell managed to finish with 7.0 team blocks, compared to the Tigers 4.0, and both teams tallied just 29 kills apiece.

Princeton (8-12, 4-6) was led by Cara Mattaliano's 19 kills while Kendal Peterkin was the only other Tiger in double-figures with 12. Peterkin also hit a match-high .579 with her 12 kills coming on 19 attempts with just one error. Setter Lauren Miller registered 42 assists and Sarah Daschbach had a team-high seven digs.

The Big Red plays its final road games of the season next weekend when it heads to New England to take on Brown (Nov. 8, 7:00 p.m.) and Yale (Nov. 9, 5:00 p.m.), before concluding the 2013 campaign at Newman Arena against Dartmouth and Harvard on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, respectively.
