ITHACA, N.Y. —
Jaime Laird celebrated Senior Day with a victory in her last competitive match at Belkin International Squash Courts on Friday, but the women's squash team suffered an 8-1 loss to top-ranked, undefeated Princeton.
Laird was victorious at the No. 3 spot in one of her trademark five-game matches. She fought back from a 2-1 deficit with a marathon 16-14 win in the fourth game against Nicole Bunyan, then pulled out the victory with an 11-6 edge in the fifth. It was Laird's eighth five-game match over the last two season – five of which have gone in her favor.
Princeton (10-0, 6-0) was pretty much in control otherwise. Linsday Seginson (No. 8), Jesse Pacheco (No. 2) and
Danielle Letourneau (No. 1) won one game apiece in their respective matches. The Tigers have now defeated the fifth-ranked Big Red (11-4, 3-3) in all 18 of the programs' meetings, clinching at least a share of the Ivy title in the process.
Cornell hits the road for the rest of the weekend, competing Saturday at Franklin & Marshall and Sunday at Penn to wrap up the regular season in advance of next week's Howe Cup.
