FAIRFAX, Va. – Cornell got a dominant pitching performance in Sunday's opener and split a pair of games in Sunday morning action at the George Mason Invitational. The Big Red won the opener over the host Patriots 3-0 and dropped game two to Longwood, 8-1. Cornell is now 3-5 on the year.

After being swept in a pair of game on Saturday, the Big Red got back on the winning track thanks to a dominant effort in the circle from junior Alyson Onyon, who scattered three hits, struck out 10 and didn't walk a batter in the complete game shutout. The Big Red had four doubles among its nine hits in the early game, including consecutive two-baggers in the third by Taylor Goodin and Clare Feely to score the team's first run. Kristen Towne added an RBI single in the inning to make it 2-0, and the Big Red added an insurance run in the fifth after Towne sacrificed herself to score Emily Weinberg, who hit a one-out triple. Weinberg and Christina Villalon each went 2-for-3 in the game.

The nightcap saw Longwood explode for six runs in the second inning to put away the Big Red early. The Big Red scored its lone run in the third to get back within 7-1, but the Lancers closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the inning to cap the scoring. Towne was 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Ashleigh Rousseau was 1-for-2 and scored the lone run.

Towne ended the day 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Cornell offense.
