DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Cornell softball team swept a doubleheader from Bethune-Cookman, continuing a successful spring break trip with 6-3 and 7-3 triumphs on Mondy afternoon at Sunnyland Park. The Big Red improved to 8-7, while the Wildcats slipped to 3-23.

Cornell improved to 4-1 in its last five games after continuing to hit the ball around the yard. The Big Red had at least 10 hits in both games, making it five times in its last six games with double figure hits.

Cornell rallied in game two for five runs in the top of the seventh to complete a rally from a 3-0 deficit. Entering the final frame trailing 3-2, freshman Michiko McGivney hit her fourth homer in two days to lead off the inning, evening the score. Kristen Towne put the Big Red ahead three batters later with a single to center, and Jenny Edwards put Cornell squarely ahead with a three-run blast to turn a narrow one-run game into a four-run contest.

After falling behind 3-0, Cornell got back within a run on a two-out, two-run single by Meg Parker in the third to claw back. The Big Red loaded the bases, but couldn't knot the score until later.

Lauren Bucolo went 3-for-3 in the second game, while McGivney (2-for-3) and Emily Weinberg (2-for-4) each collecting multiple hits. Sammy Roth picked up the victory in the circle with 4.1 solid innings of relief. She scattered four hits and struck out one.

The Big Red had a little easier time in the first game, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after four and a half innings and holding on for the win. Cornell tallied 10 hits, with Towne going 3-for-4. Parker and Erin Belles each hit home runs and Clare Feely drove in a pair of runs. In the circle, Alyson Onyon hurled a complete game two-hitter, allowing three runs in improving to 6-2 on the season.

Cornell used some more two-out magic, scoring all four of its runs in the fourth that way. Bucolo had an RBI single, Feely poked a two-run double down the rightfield line and McGivney reached on an error to plate the final run of the inning. Already up 4-0, Parker and Belles hit back-to-back solo shots to seemingly put the game out of reach. The Wildcats fought back within 6-3 in the sixth, but Onyon retired the game's last five batters to close out the victory.
