ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's polo teams will host the 2013 USPA Northeast Regionals this weekend at Oxley Equestrian Center. Both Big Red teams will be looking for automatic bids to the national championship tournament.
The men will kick off the action on Friday, March 22 when Cornell meets Brown at noon. The winner of that game will meet the winner of the 2 p.m. matchup between Skidmore and Connecticut in Sunday's final, slated for noon. The women will play on Saturday, March 23 with the Big Red meeting Harvard at noon. Immediately following will be a Skidmore-Connecticut matchup, with the winners squaring off the following day at 2 p.m. for the automatic bid to nationals.
The women are ranked No. 1 in the country at 12-1, the Big Red women's team will has outscored opponents 318-108, helping improve head coach
David Eldredge's record to 436-120-17 record (.776) with the program. Cornell is 9-1 at home this season and is in search of its fifth consecutive regional crown and its 20th in program history.
The men's team is 8-2 and has won seven of its last eight contests entering the regional championship. After more than a month off, Cornell tuned up for the weekend with a 22-15 win over the Toronto Polo Club on March 9. Eldredge has amassed an impressive 393-164-8 record (.703) in his 27 years on the sidelines with the men, who will be looking for the program's 19th regional crown and its 10th in the last 11 seasons.
