JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After a lengthy rain delay, Jacksonville seemed right at home under the lights, sweeping a doubleheader from Cornell, including celebrating a walk-off win in game two after midnight on Thursday morning. The Dolphins pounded out 13 hits in a six-inning 8-0 game one victory, then rallied for a 5-4 triumph in the nightcap at Jacksonville Softball Complex. The Big Red slipped to 8-11 with the losses, while the Dolphins improved to 21-8.
Cornell put together six hits, including a 2-for-3 day for
Meg Parker that included a double, in the game one loss.
Michiko McGivney,
Emily Weinberg,
Jenny Edwards and
Lauren Bucolo each had singles in the loss.
Sammy Roth took the loss in the circle, surrendering four earned runs and 11 hits in five innings of work.
Jacksonville led 4-0 after three and scored two more in both the fifth and sixth to knock the Big Red after homers by Sarah Simon and Karson Tuck. Simon ended the night 4-for-4 with the homer.
Taylor Rossman picked up the win with a solid effot for the Dolphins, scattering the six hits without issuing a walk and striking out three. She allowed three consecutive hits to load the bases in the sixth, but was able to escape without allowing a run.
Cornell out-hit the Dolphins 12-4 in game two, but couldn't hold onto a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. After scoring two runs in the top of the inning to regain a 4-3 lead on a two-run single by Parker, Jacksonville loaded the bases with one out and scored on consecutive singles, including the game-winner.
Michiko McGivney was 3-for-4 and
Erin Belles,
Lauren Bucolo and
Clare Feely each went 2-for-3. Belles and
Christina Villalon each slammed solo home runs in the fourth to give the Big Red a short-lived 2-1 lead.
