Women’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to No. 37 Yale

4/13/2013 5:04:00 PM

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After three extremely close doubles matches, the women's tennis dropped five of six singles matches on Saturday to fall, 6-1, to Ivy League-leading Yale at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Freshman Laila Judeh won her match at No. 5 singles to account for the lone Big Red point.

The day started with three nailbiting doubles tilts. Yale's Courtney Amos and Amber Li outlasted the Cornell pair of freshman Christy Kung and senior Sarah O'Neil at the No. 3 position, 9-7. The last two doubles matches came down to tiebreakers, with the Big Red's No. 2 tandem of freshman Lauren Frazier and junior Ryann Young winning, 9-8(4). But Yale came out on top in the No. 1 doubles match to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs, ranked 37th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, then clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches to be completed. Judeh then came out on top at the No. 5 position, defeating Amber Li, 7-5, 6-4. Judeh and freshman Dena Tanenbaum are now tied for the best record on the team in singles with matching 12-3 marks. Judeh is also the first member of the Big Red to win two Ivy League singles matches this season, having also defeated Harvard's Sylvia Li last weekend.

The victory was Yale's 16th in a row over the Big Red. Cornell continues its trip this weekend with a noon Sunday match at Brown.
