ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell's streak of four consecutive Ivy League South Division crowns was stopped when Penn swept a Sunday afternoon doubleheader over the Big Red softball team at Niemand*Robison Field. The Quakers rallied for a 6-5 victory in game one, then won the nightcap 6-2. The Big Red fell to 17-23 (7-9 Ivy), while Penn improved to 24-16 (13-3 Ivy).

Penn rallied from an early 4-1 deficit and scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a come-from-behind 6-5 win in game one. Christina Villalon hit her sixth home run of the season and Kristen Towne added her first, but the Quakers were able to take advantage of two hits and an error in its final frame to rally. Six different Penn players collected hits, with Stephanie Caso driving in a pair of runs.

Freshman Meg Parker looked strong in the circle in game one, scattering five hits in 6.1 innings of work in the no decision. She was backed up by Erin Belles, who was 2-for-3 with a walk, and Villalon, whose home run made it 4-1 in the fourth inning.

The Quakers scored two runs early and three runs late in game two to clinch at least a share of the South Division title. That was enough as Alexis Borden, who completed both games for the Quakers in the circle, who scattered seven hits and three walks in her 7.0 innings of work. Parker homered for Cornell, while Leanne Iannucci had a pair of hits.

Penn scored twice in the top of the first, but the Big Red answered with a single by McGivney and Parker's home run two batters later to tie the contest. The visitors scored the go-ahead run by playing small ball in the fourth with a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle to regain the lead. It tacked on three runs in the seventh to break open what was a one-run game and give Borden some breathing room to work with.

Cornell returns to action on Thursday, April 25 when it plays host to Ithaca for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
