ITHACA, N.Y. -- Princeton's Alex Peyton dominated in the circle in game one and hit two homers in game two as the Tigers earned a doubleheader sweep of Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. The Tigers improved to 26-18 (11-7) with 3-1 and 7-5 victories, the latter coming in 10 innings. Cornell slipped to 19-25 (7-11 Ivy).

Peyton threw a two-hitter in the first game, allowing only an unearned run and striking out three in picking up her eighth win of the season in the circle. The Tigers used a two-run homer from Lizzy Pierce in the third and a solo shot by Candy Button in the fourth to lead from start to finish. Cornell scratched together a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Leanne Iannucci pinch-hit single.

Jenny Edwards had a double for Cornell's only other hit of the game. Alyson Onyon took the hard-luck loss, scattering seven hits and striking out six .

Game two saw the Tigers rally from a 3-1 deficit, including getting a home run by Peyton with one out in the seventh inning to tie the game, then had the Big Red rally in extra innings. After Princeton took a 5-3 lead in the top of the eighth, Cornell answered with two in the bottom of the inning to extend the game. Princeton was able to use a leadoff bloop double by Danielle Allen, who homered in the eighth, an infield single and a fielder's choice to score the game-winning run. Another fielder's choice scored the insurance run.

Cornell put a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the 10th with one out, but couldn't find that same magic again.

Freshman Michiko McGivney hit her sixth home run of the season as part of a 2-for-4 day, while classmate Emily Weinberg was 3-for-6. Erin Belles was 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Big Red will honor its two seniors, Erin Belles and Kristen Towne, prior to tomorrow's doubleheader against the Tigers, scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
