HANOVER, N.H. -- Late-inning heroics in game two salvaged a Friday afternoon Ivy League split for the Cornell softball team at Dartmouth. The Big Red dropped the opener 6-2 before rallying to win game two 10-9 in 10 innings to improve to 13-15 (3-3 Ivy).

Game two saw the Big Red run out to three run leads in the first, second, third and fifth innings, but each time the Big Green cut into the lead and eventually caught and surpassed the Big Red. Dartmouth scored in each of the first six innings and put up crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth, scoring five times in the two frames. Cornell tied it in the top of the seventh on a two-out run-scoring single by Michiko McGivney and won it in the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Bucolo after a leadoff triple by Christina Villalon.

Alyson Onyon was the definition of gutsy, going all 10 innings and scattering 11 hits and eight walks in surrendering the nine runs, but buckled down just in time to pick up her 10th win of the year. The junior did not allow a hit in the final four innings.

Erin Belles had a monster day at the plate before Dartmouth gave up on trying to get her out. She was 4-for-5 with two home runs before the Big Green issued her four consecutive free passes in game two. She hit a three-run homer in the first to set the tone and added a solo shot in the third inning. Christina Villalon and Emily Weinberg each went 2-for-6, while McGivney was 2-for-5. Freshman Leanne Iannucci had a huge pinch-hit two-run double in game two.

In the opener, Dartmouth scored a run in the first and three more in the third, and that was all starter Kristen Rumley would need en route to a four-hit complete game victory. The Big Green overcame five errors and two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to knock off the Big Red behind Rumley's 12th win of the season.

With Rumley buzzing, Dartmouth got on the board in the bottom of the first on a single by Hillary Hubert followed by an RBI triple by Katie McEachern. The Big Green answered again in the third on a two-run single by Brianna Lohmann and an RBI double by Morgan McCalmon. Dartmouth put the game award in the sixth when Hubert popped a two-run homer out of the park to make it 6-0.

The Big Red battled back and threatened in the seventh, scoring a pair of unearned runs and leaving a pair of baserunners on before the home team was able to retire the side.

Belles had two of the team's four hits on the day, with Weinberg and Kristen Towne each collecting a hit.
Cornell will be back in action tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at defending Ivy champion Harvard.
