ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's polo teams will head deep into the heart of Texas with their eyes squarely set on coming home with national titles when both teams head to the 2013 USPA Collegiate National Championships this week in Brookshire, Texas. The national semifinals begin on Wednesday.

At 11-2, the USPA Northeast Regional champion men's team will face Central region champ Colorado State in one national semifinal on Thursday at 9 a.m. The winner of that game will face either Southeastern champ and reigning national titleholder Virginia, or either wild card Southern Methodist or Western champ Westmont, in Saturday's 9 a.m. final. SMU and Westmont will compete in a play-in game on Tuesday. The Big Red enters the tournament having won 10 of its last 11 contests in capturing the program's 10th USPA Northeast regional title in the last 11 seasons. Head coach David Eldredge has amassed an impressive 396-164-8 record (.704) in his 27 years on the sidelines with the men.

The men have already played contests against both Virginia and Colorado State, dropping decisions to both teams very early in the season. The Rams won an exciting 24-23 contest over the Big Red in the final of the William S. Field Invitational in mid-November a month after falling to the Cavaliers 15-6 in Charlottesville. Since the loss to CSU, Cornell has run off six consecutive wins. The Big Red will be looking for its 12th national title and first since 2005.

The women, ranked No. 1 in the country with a 14-1 record, will open the tournament against Western Regional champ Washington State on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will face either Southeastern champ Virginia or Central champ Colorado State in Saturday's national championship match at 11 a.m. The Big Red has outscored opponents 374-120 to help improve Eldredge's mark with the program to 438-120-17 (.777).

Cornell hasn't played CSU or Washington State, but has a pair of wins over Virginia. The women will be looking for the program's 14th national title and its second in three years.
