ITHACA, N.Y. – Former Cornell women's hockey captain Lauriane Rougeau was selected fourth overall by the Montreal Stars in the first round of the 2013 Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Entry Draft on Aug. 26.

The CWHL is the premier professional women's hockey league in the world.  With four teams spread throughout Canada and a fifth team in Boston, the centrally funded league puts every dollar towards building a league that is dedicated to raising the profile of women's hockey while providing venues for the best female hockey players in the World to train and compete.

A native of Beaconsfiels, Quebec, Rougeau was a key component in the Big Red's success during her tenure with the program. She posted 116 careers points on 27 goals and 89 assists through four seasons and sits as the greatest plus/minus player in the history of the program at +150. The three-time ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman award-winner was the first of 15 former ECAC student-athletes selected in the draft.

Rougeau is currently part of Canada's 27-player National Women's Team centralization roster. The final roster announcement of those who will be competing for Team Canada at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia is expected sometime in December.
