ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Conor Goepel capped Sunday's Big Red comeback with a double-overtime game-winning goal to lift Cornell over Hartwick and claim the 37th annual Mayor's Cup title in the nation's longest-running Division I men's soccer tournament.

Goepel beat Hartwick goalkeeper Mateo Munarriz to a 50-50 ball and was able to maintain control through Munarriz's attempted tackle. With the keeper out of position, Goepel tucked the ball into the open goal with 3:47 remaining in the second extra session to give the Big Red its first win of 2013.

Hartwick struck first in the ninth minute when David Styles put a through pass from Jamie O'Grady inside the far post past Cornell goalkeeper Zach Zagorski.

The Hawks maintained that one-goal lead for most of the game until senior defender Patrick Slogic came forward on a set piece in the 81st minute and headed a corner from classmate Stephen Reisert inside the near post past Munarriz for the equalizer.

Zagorski was stellar in the final minutes of regulation for the Big Red, making a key save on a Chris Walter breakaway in the 86th minute to keep Cornell alive. With Walter already behind the Big Red defense, Zagorski came 12 yards off his line to cut off the angle, leaving the Hawks' forward with no where to shoot but straight into his body.

Cornell won the tournament with a 1-0-1 record and was the only team to secure a victory over the weekend. Goepel was named the Jim Lennox Offensive Most Valuable Player, while Slogic was named the Garth Stam Defensive Most Valuable Player. Members of the Big Red named to the All-Tournament Team included: Reisert, Zagorski, Jake Rinow and Benjamin Williams.

Up next the Big Red will host Cal State Fullerton and Loyola Marymount in Cornell's annual Inaria Classic on Friday Sept. 13 and Sunday Sept. 15.
