HANOVER, N.H. — Senior forward
Dustin Mowrey scored for a second straight game and senior goaltender
Andy Iles made 32 saves in the men's hockey team's 1-1 deadlock with Dartmouth on Saturday night at Thompson Arena.
The Big Red never trailed in its two games on the road trip and have now lost just once in its last 11 games (7-1-3). After scoring the winning goal Friday at Harvard, Mowrey kept the hot hand with his fifth goal of the season just 4 minutes, 25 seconds into Saturday's game. The Big Green won a faceoff in its own end to the left of goalie James Kruger, but Big Red junior forward
Brian Ferlin created havoc on a Dartmouth defenseman in the corner. An attempted pass deflected off Ferlin's stick toward the crease. Mowrey was open to push a shot toward goal that Kruger stopped, but he followed up by wristing the rebound inside the far post to stake Cornell (9-4-4, 5-3-3 ECAC Hockey) to an early 1-0 lead.
But the Big Red couldn't build on the lead. Armed with one of the best power plays in the nation, Cornell had just two opportunities with the man advantage – none past the opening 20 minutes.
Dartmouth (3-13-3, 2-9-1 ECAC Hockey) would eventually equalize in the second period. The Big Red got caught puck-watching on Geoff Ferguson's shot from the high slot, leaving Connor Dempsey free on the weak side for an easy rebound conversion at the 7:04 mark.
Cornell was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, including two kills in the third period. The Big Red has now killed 22 consecutive penalties dating back to a game against Boston University on Nov. 30.
The Big Red returns home for games next weekend at Lynah Rink. Cornell plays host to St. Lawrence at 7 p.m. Friday and nationally ranked Clarkson at 7 p.m. Saturday.
