Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#5/5 Quinnipiac Spills Women's Hockey, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. — Facing one of the top defensive teams in the country on Saturday, the women's hockey team improved as the contest wore on, but ultimately lost 3-0 to Quinnipiac at Lynah Rink. Sophomore goaltender Paula Voorheis made 27 saves for the Big Red.

Quinnipiac (7-0-1, 2-0 ECAC Hockey), ranked fifth in both the major national polls, got on the board 4:32 into the game. Kristen Tamberg had her shot from the center point blocked, but Nicole Connery quickly regained possession toward the right corner and whipped a perfect pass across the slot to Taylar Cianfarano for an easy finish on the back door. The Bobcats had the game's first nine shots on goal before the Big Red's Taylor Woods forced a save from Chelsea Laden at the 10:39 mark.

The Bobcats then tacked on two more goals late in the frame to take a commanding three-goal lead into the intermission. Meghan Turner scored the first on a rebound of her own shot, which was originally stopped by Voorheis. Emma Woods then scored the third goal with less than 33 seconds before the break on the power play. Nicole Kosta's shot from the top of the left circle was saved, but Morgan Frtiz-Ward swatted the rebound across the crease to Emma Woods for another tap-in finish.

Cornell (0-4, 0-2 ECAC Hockey) started to generate more offensive chances as the game progressed, including a flurry of shots with 9 minutes to go in the second period. Anna Zorn was stopped by Laden a pair of times before the final shot of the scramble whistled wide. Half of the Big Red's 14 shots on goal came in the third period.

The Big Red will enjoy a rare midseason break with a week off before its next games, when it once again plays a pair of 3 p.m. affairs against Brown on Friday, Nov. 14 and Yale on Saturday, Nov. 15.
