CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Cavaliers pulled away after halftime to send Cornell to its second loss to Virginia in a month in a 23-11 defeat on Friday evening. The Big Red fell to 9-5 on the season with the loss.
Nik Feldman, Ignacio Masias, and
Hakan Karabey (subbing for the ill Nick Stieg) started for the Big Red. Virginia jumped out quickly 3-0 and saw the Big Red answer with a three-goal. By the end of the first it was 5-3 Cavaliers. The second saw another tight battle as UVa was able to increase its lead to 10-7 at the half. Virginia turned it up in the third and pulled out to a commanding 17-9 lead at the end. The loss secured Cornell as No. 3 team in the country, right behind Virginia. Feldman tallied five goals, Masias had four and there were two penalty goals.
