DOVER, Del. – The Cornell softball team split a pair of pitcher's duels against Central Connecticut State at Delaware State's Sean Savage Memorial Tournament for Epilepsy Awareness. The Big Red dropped game one 1-0, then had one big inning in the nightcap to post a 5-0 victory.

The two teams combined for just 10 total hits (four for Cornell), but it was the Blue Devils' final one of the game that proved costly. Arielle Bruno hit a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth to score the game winning run and make a winner out of Laura Messina. The Central Connecticut State hurler improved to 9-5 in the circle this season with a four-hit shutout, striking out four with just one walk.
Sophomore
Meg Parker took the hard luck loss, scattering six hits and five walks while striking out seven to drop to 3-4 on the year. Cornell's
Leanne Iannucci had a pair of hits for Cornell, while Parker and
Christina Villalon each went 1-for-3 with Villalon's hit a double.

Lauren Bucolo's bases loaded walk opened the door,
Jenny Edwards' sacrifice fly cracked it a little wider and
Meg Parker's three-run home run busted it wide open in the fifth inning. Then
Alyson Onyon closed it on Central Connecticut State in a 5-0 Big Red victory.
Cornell, which hadn't scored in 18 innings spanning three games, exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth and Onyon allowed just three hits to even her record at 2-2 and salvage the split for the Big Red.
Onyon improved to 2-2 on the year by surrendering just three hits and three walks to go along with three strikeouts in the complete game shutout. The Big Red defense, that didn't commit an error on the day, came through and six different Cornell batters had a hit in the win.
