ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell softball team stranded 18 baserunners and couldn't rally all the way back from a three-run deficit in the 10th in a 7-6 loss to Colgate on Tuesday afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Big Red, which fell to 12-16. Game two was postponed due to darkness.

Cornell pounded out 16 hits and seemed to be on the doorstep all day, but stranded 18 runners total. The Big Red answered Colgate leads by tying the score three times, but the Raiders' fourth lead was too much. The big blow came on a two-run home run by junior Kate Zucker, who snapped an 0-for-26 slump to open the season. The Big Red got within a run in the bottom of the inning, but Brigit Ieuter was able to get the final out to pick up her fourth win of the season.

Freshman Jessica Bigbie was 4-for-4 and junior Sophie Giaquinto was 3-for-6 and both were credited with an RBI. Both seniors Christina Villalon and Jenny Edwards had two hits and an RBI apiece at the plate. Senior Alyson Onyon went the distance in the circle for Cornell, her sixth career complete game of 10 innings or more, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out 11. She allowed just two runs over the first seven before the international tiebreaker helped the Raiders plate five runs in the final three frames.

Ieuter allowed 16 hits, but just two earned runs while matching Onyon's 10 innings in the circle. Both Katie Bushee and Mariel Schlaefer had two hits each, with Schlaefer and Tera Vaughn joining Zucker with longballs.
