HANOVER, N.H. — The women's tennis team came up just short in its comeback bid against Brown on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-3 in a non-league match at Dartmouth's Kick Off Classic.
Cornell (0-2) stormed back from a 3-1 deficit with a 7-5, 7-5 win from
Alexandra D'Ascenzo at No. 4 singles and a three-set victory from
Lizzie Stewart at No. 3, but Brown (1-1) came out on top in the final remaining singles match at Boss Tennis Center. The Big Red finished in fourth place at the event.
The Bears captured the doubles point via tiebreaker at the No. 3 position.
Lizzie Stewart and
Dena Tanenbaum won the No. 1 match for the Big Red, 6-3.
Jane Stewart — in her first weekend of competition for Cornell since transferring from Rice — got her new squad on the board with a two-set victory at No. 6 singles.
The Big Red is back in action with three matches next weekend. After make the short trip north to take on Syracuse at noon Saturday, Cornell returns to Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca for a Sunday doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson (10 a.m.) and Lafayette (3:30 p.m.).
