ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's tennis started off the home portion of its dual-match schedule with a 4-2 victory over Iowa on Friday evening at Reis Tennis Center. Senior
Sam Fleck and sophomore
Colin Sinclair teamed up to win in doubles, then went on to win their respective singles matches for Cornell (2-3).
The Big Red, which is ranked 65th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for a second consecutive week, ended a three-match losing streak with the victory. Just like in its other victory to start the season against UTSA, Cornell started off Friday's match by securing the doubles point.
Stefan Vinti and
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen handily won their match at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, then Fleck and Sinclair clinched the point by winning a tiebreaker at the No. 2 position. The Fleck/Sinclair pairing improved to 3-0 on the season.
In singles, Sinclair and
Chris Vrabel won their matches at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions in straight sets. Fleck then clinched the match with three-set victory over Lefteris Theodorou at No. 3, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
The Big Red finishes its weekend with a match at 1 p.m. Saturday against No. 57 George Washington, which nailed down its first win of the season Friday against East Carolina.
