ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's soccer team's incredible unbeaten run to start the season came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Harvard at Berman Field. Cornell (8-1-3, 1-1-1 Ivy League) is the last team in Division I to suffer a loss this season.
On a perfect, sunny fall day in front of a large crowd, the Big Red found itself on its heels against the defending league champion Crimson. Emily Mosbacher gave Harvard (6-6-1, 3-0) the lead in the 21st minute on a header off long service from defender Bailey Gary. Then the Crimson doubled the lead about five minutes later on a 70-yard run and finish by Margaret Purce.
Trailing for the first time all season, Cornell regrouped in the second half and had more possession. Harvard goalkeeper Lizzie Durack made two saves for the shutout, and Cornell junior goalkeeper
Kelsey Tierney made five saves.
The Big Red closes out the non-league portion of its schedule at 7 p.m. Monday against Colgate.
