ITHACA, N.Y. — Jeff Kubiak scored three goals, and Christian Hilbrich and
Anna Zorn had two goals apiece as the Red team held on for a 9-8 victory at the hockey teams' annual Red-White Game on Saturday night at Lynah Rink.
The intrasquad game featured two 30-minute halves. The men's and women's teams alternated pairs of shifts throughout. Power plays were awarded evenly at set times throughout the game, as were four-on-four situations. Any infractions that were detected by the officials resulted in penalty shots.
The Cornell men's team accounted for eight of the game's 13 goals during regulation, then Anthony Angello, Zorn,
Hanna Bunton and Beau Starrett scored in a penalty shootout. After Zorn's first goal tied the game at 2, the Red team scored the game's next five goals. White answered with the final four goals on regulation, including a penalty-shot conversion from Kubiak to cap off his hat trick with 35.6 seconds to play.
The lone power-play goal of the night came from
Kaitlin Doering in the second half. Bunton and
Taylor Woods had a goal and an assist apiece. On the men's side, Eric Freschi had a goal and two assists.
The No. 10/10 women's team will start its regular season with a two-game non-league series against No. 2/2 Boston College at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday at Lynah Rink. The men's team will play its exhibitions next weekend, taking on Ryerson at 7 p.m. Saturday and Laurentian at 2 p.m. Sunday.
