PHILADELPHIA — Junior goalkeeper
Kelsey Tierney made six saves, and the women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Penn on Friday night at Penn Park. It's the 10th shutout of the season for Tierney and Cornell (8-0-3, 1-0-1 Ivy League), which remains one of just two unbeaten teams in the country.
It was the third 0-0 draw of the season for the Big Red, which is off to its best start in program history. Cornell, which was listed as a team under consideration for the Top Drawer Soccer national Top 25 this week, forced Penn goalkeeper Carrie Crook to make four saves — including an offering from senior midfielder
Amanda Gaggioli with about four minutes left in the second 10-minute overtime.
With her 16th career clean sheet, Tierney moved into a third-place tie in program history with Sherrie Chocola (1984-86). She lowered her goals-against average to 0.09, with the Big Red's only conceded goal this season coming on a penalty kick last weekend.
Cornell returns home for its next two games, hosting defending Ivy League champion Harvard at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The Big Red then concludes the non-league portion of its schedule at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 with a game against regional rival Colgate.
