Baseball One-Hit In 3-0 Loss to Seton Hall

Box Score (PDF)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The baseball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Seton Hall on Friday afternoon, narrowly averting a no-hitter when junior Jordan Winawer singled in the ninth inning.

The Pirates (1-3) scored once in the second inning, then tripled their lead in the fifth on Kyle Grimm's two-run single. Starting pitcher Zach Prendergast earned the victory with seven no-hit, shutout innings with two walks, two hit-by-pitches and six strikeouts.

Junior Michael Byrne took the loss, working 4.1 innings. He yielded three runs — two earned — on four hits and six strikeouts. He was hindered by four walks, which led to all of Seton Hall's runs.

Sophomore Paul Balestrieri worked the rest of the game in relief, stranding the bases loaded in the fifth and yielding just one baserunner through his final three innings of work. He struck out three.

Cornell returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday, when it takes on Hartford.
