Freshman Karlie Mellott continued her torrid start at the plate, going 4-for-6 in two games, but the Cornell softball team dropped a 5-3 contest to Amry and a 9-0, five-inning defeat at the hands of Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at the Grand Park Athletic Conference. The Big Red dropped to 0-4 to start the season after the losses.Mellott opened the day 2-for-4 with a run scored against the Black Knights, while
Emily Weinberg and
Michiko McGivney also collected two hits apiece in the loss. McGivney hit a pair of doubles in support of freshman
Sierra Stone, who went the distance in the loss. The rookie allowed 11 hits and struck out five.
In the second contest, Bucknell scored two in the first, three in the second and four in the third en route to a five inning, 9-0 triumph. Mellott had two of the team's four hits in the loss.
The Cornell softball team will be looking for its first win of 2015 when it meets Canisius on Sunday at 9 a.m., followed by a second contest against Bucknell at 11 a.m.
