ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team will play host to the three-day ECAC Division I Women's Tennis Championship this weekend at Reis Tennis Center. Cornell is one of six competing teams in the annual event, which starts Friday and runs through Sunday on East Hill.
 
Cornell (0-3) is seeded sixth and will start off against third-seeded and Yale at 2 p.m. Friday. The Bulldogs were tabbed 48th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Their only dual matches to date were a loss to 16th-ranked Michigan and a victory over 42nd-ranked Utah in an ITA Kick-Off Weekend event in Ann Arbor, Mich.
 
For the Big Red, Alexandra D'Ascenzo is 2-0 from the No. 4 position in singles. Jane Stewart also has two singles victories over the first three matches, both coming from the No. 4 spot. All three of Cornell's doubles team are 1-2 to date. Yale leads the all-time series with Cornell, 30-3, and has won the last 17 meetings. The Big Red's last victory came on April 12, 1997. That win actually gave Cornell three straight wins against the Bulldogs — accounting for all of its victories in the series. Yale won last year's meeting, 6-1, with D'Ascenzo accounting for Cornell's point with a win at No. 2 singles.
 
The winner of the Yale-Cornell match will take on second-seeded and 39th-ranked Columbia at noon Saturday. The loser will play at 3 p.m. Saturday against the loser of Friday's other first-round match, pitting fourth-seeded and 62nd-ranked Dartmouth against fifth-seeded Brown. The winner of that match will take on top-seeded and 54th-ranked Princeton at 9 a.m. Saturday.
 
On Sunday, the third-place match will be held at 9 a.m., with the championship to follow at approximately noon.
