Box Score (PDF)

BETHLEHEM, Penn. – Cornell men's soccer fell, 1-0, to Lehigh on Monday night at Ulrich Sports Complex. The lone goal came in the 50th minute, when Jamie Luchini's cross banked off a Cornell defender inside the six-yard box and into the net.

The first half was a defensive battle, with both back lines consistently squashing developing offensive threats. Lehigh's most dangerous chance of the half came in the 37th minute when Ryan Bertrando ripped a point blank shot, but Big Red freshman goalkeeper Rhys Moller reacted quickly and made the stop to keep the game scoreless.

Junior Chris St. Germain had Cornell's best look at goal in the waning minutes of the first frame, getting a quality shot off despite being chased down by a Mountain Hawk defender.

Lehigh had a chance to take a two-goal lead in the 63rd minute when Doyle Tuvesson found himself one-on-one with Moller, but a confident Moller got a piece of it, sending it sailing out of play and keeping the Big Red within one. Moller tallied 11 saves in his first collegiate start.

Senior Stevin Bienfait looked to even the score off a corner in the 69th minute, but his header was punched away by the Mountain Hawks' goalkeeper. Cornell continued to gain momentum into the latter part of the second half with a series of free kicks and corners that put the Lehigh defensive unit under pressure. A Big Red cross in the waning moments had potential to be the equalizer, but a defender cleared it out of the box.

With the loss, Cornell falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Big Red will head to Pittsburgh, Penn. next for the Duquesne Invitational, where they will face Cleveland State on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and no. 21 Oregon State at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
