(PDF)TROY, N.Y. --- For the second time this season, Cornell women's hockey and Rensselaer ended regulation tied at one, and for the second time this season, the Engineers walked away with a 2-1 win. RPI scored 1:44 into overtime to take two key ECAC Hockey points Saturday afternoon at Houston Fieldhouse.
In a scoreless first period, both teams traded chances early on, including RPI tries that resulted in scrambles in front of the Cornell net. Senior
Jess Brown then hit the post at the other end with about six minutes to go in the first period.
Â
With about 1:30 left in the frame, Laura Horwood broke in on junior goaltender
Paula Voorheis and collided with her, sending them both sprawling into the net with the puck still loose. After the Engineers tried to bury the rebound, Voorheis was able to find it and cover up, keeping the game scoreless. The Big Red held a 9-5 advantage in shots at the first intermission.

Senior
Cassandra Poudrier had one of the first close opportunities of the second frame, firing a quick shot from the top of the left circle that hit Engineers goaltender Lovisa Selander up high, and she bobbled it before covering up.

Senior
Taylor Woods broke the scoreless tie at 7:54 of the second period in impressive fashion, getting the puck along the goal line in the RPI zone, skating in on net, making a move around Selander, and tucking away a low shot while falling to the ice.
Â
The sides then exchanged power plays, but both came away unscathed, before Rooney brought the Engineers even with three minutes remaining in the second, sneaking a shot in on the short side.
Â
With the game still knotted at one, RPI turned the heat up in the final two minutes of regulation, peppering Voorheis with a number of quality tries, but the Big Red goaltender closed the door, sending the game to overtime.
Â
Just 1:44 into the extra frame, Lauren Wash intercepted a pass at the Cornell blue line. She and Rooney skated in two-on-one, and Wash slid the puck to Rooney, who one-timed it home into the left side of the net.
Â
With the result, RPI moves into sole position of eighth place in the league standings and Cornell drops to ninth.
Â
The Big Red returns home next weekend, taking on first-place Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 at Lynah Rink for Cornell's Do It For Daron game. Princeton then makes the trip to Ithaca for a 4 p.m. puck drop on Feb. 6.
