SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Big Red men's basketball team used a hot start to get out to an early lead, but Syracuse responded with a 30-10 run and never looked back as it rolled to a 80-56 victory this evening in the Carrier Dome. With the loss, its 37th consecutive to the Orange, Cornell falls to 3-9 on the year, while Syracuse improves to 8-5.

Troy Whiteside was one of two Big Red to reach double-digits, finishing with a team-high 13 points on a 6-of-9 performance from the floor, to go along with a career-best six assists. Sophomore
Matt Morgan chipped in 10 points, while classmate
Stone Gettings grabbed nine rebounds. The Big Red had 16 assists on the night and shot 42 percent from the floor.
Syracuse was led by Tyler Lyndon's 20-point, 10-rebound double-double, as one of four Orange to reach double-figures. Syracuse held a 16-0 edge in fastbreak points, 18-6 on second chance points and 19-9 off turnovers. Taurean Thompson netted 18 points and seven rebounds and Tyus Battle had 16 points and three steals for SU.
The Big Red shot out of the gates quickly, putting the home team in an 8-2 hole two and a half minutes in after a 3-pointer by Morgan, ending an 8-0 run by the visitors. Cornell was still tied 16-16 nine minutes in and trailed by just two with six minutes remaining in the first half before the Orange ended on a patented run. Syracuse outscored Cornell 22-7 over the final 5:46 to turn a close battle into a comfortable Orange lead (42-25) at the break.
The second half wasn't much different, with Syracuse building the lead to as many as 30 points before the Big Red was able to close the game on a 9-3 run as both teams emptied the bench.

• Over his last two games, Whiteside is 11-of-14 from the floor for 24 points.
• Cornell had a positive assist:turnover ratio for the fifth time in six contests and is now even on the year (168 assists, 168 turnovers).
