ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell softball team closed out the 2016 campaign with a pair of losses at Ivy League South Division champion Princeton, falling 4-3 and 12-2 in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Class of 1895 Field. Princeton will head into the Ivy League Championship series with a 21-25 record (14-6 Ivy), while the Big Red fell to 9-32 (3-17 Ivy).
Game 1
Princeton scored two runs in the sixth to snap a 2-2 tie and the Big Red left the bases loaded in the seventh in a 4-3 loss.Â

Emily Weinberg,
Meg Parker and
Leanne Iannucci - each reached base in the seventh as Cornell attempted to rally, with Iannucci's bases loaded walk driving in a run to get back within a run. The comeback was not to be, as
Rebecca Kubena, who had two hits, lined out to end the game.
Weinberg and Kubena each had a pair of hits, while Parker had a double and two RBI to lead the offensive attack. Parker also was solid in the circle, scattering six hits and surrendering just three earned runs in the complete game loss.
Princeton raced out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second, but the Big Red answered to tie in the fifth on a two-out double by Parker to scored\
Madeline Avery and
Jessica Bigbie. The Tigers plated two more runs in the sixth to ultimately regain the lead for good.
Game 2
Princeton took control of a 1-1 contest with a five-run third and put the game away with a six-run fourth to close Cornell's season with a 12-2, five inning loss.
Seniors
Meg Parker and
Leanne Iannucci each had hits in their final collegiate game, with Parker hitting her 20th career homer in her final at bat.
Megan Murray also had a hit and an RBI in the loss.
Four different players had multiple hits for Princeton, while Claire Klausner and Erica Nori combined to scatter three hits and two runs while striking out five for the South Division champion.
