Women's Squash Hosts Three Matches This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team continues an eight-match home stand this weekend with a trio of matches at Belkin International Squash Courts. The Big Red will take on Drexel at 2 p.m. Friday, then compete in a Saturday doubleheader vs. Trinity at noon and George Washington at 3:30 p.m.

Cornell (3-1) is coming off a split of Ivy League matches last weekend, rebounding from an 8-1 Saturday loss to Yale with a 7-2 victory on Sunday against Brown. Freshman Madison Miles had the lone point against the Bulldogs, then the Big Red clinched the match against the Bears in the second rotation with wins from senior co-captain Rachel Scherman and freshman Colby Gallagher.

The top portion of the College Squash Association's national rankings remains unchanged this week, which leaves Cornell in its familiar slot at No. 8. Drexel (3-7), however, slipped one spot to 15th due to results elsewhere. The Dragons are coming off three home matches in a five-day span, including 9-0 losses to the country's top two teams — Harvard and Penn — and a 9-0 win over 21st-ranked Wellesley. Cornell has not lost to Drexel in its four matches since the programs first met during the 2013-14 season, winning the last two matchups by a 7-2 margin.

Trinity (8-1) remains ranked exactly where it finished last season — third. The Bantams' lone setback to date was a 5-4 loss to No. 2 Penn on Monday, a match was bookended by convincing wins Sunday vs. 13th-ranked Franklin & Marshall and Wednesday vs. sixth-ranked Yale. Cornell hasn't beaten Trinity in 14 all-time matches. Senior co-captain Sydney Francis accounted for the Big Red's point in an 8-1 loss against the Bantams last year.

George Washington (2-5) is holding steady at No. 12, having suffered a 5-4 loss Saturday to No. 11 Williams in Washington. The Big Red improved to 5-0 all-time against the Colonials last year with a 6-3 victory on Jan. 31 during the Yale Round Robin.

All three of this weekend's matches are free and open to the public.
