ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman Lucy Martin won her first two scoring matches at the collegiate level, and the women's squash team won two of three matches this weekend at Belkin International Squash Courts. The Big Red opened with an 8-1 decision over Drexel on Saturday, then swept George Washington on Sunday morning, 9-0, before suffering a loss by the same score to Trinity in the afternoon.
 
Cornell (6-2), which started its weekend ranked eighth in the nation by the College Squash Association, dropped its only point against the 15th-ranked Dragons via default. The Big Red recorded three-set sweeps across the bottom four positions in the order. Senior Michèle Garceau punctuated the match by holding on to win in five sets at the No. 1 position, giving the Big Red a 5-0 all-time record against Drexel.
 
It was a similar story against 12th-ranked George Washington, with the lower portion of the order winning more handily. Senior co-captain Rachel Scherman rallied to win her match at No. 2 in the fifth set, 12-10.
 
Martin was then the only Big Red competitor to take a set against the Bantams, though sophomore Lauren Leizman won the exhibition match comfortably in three sets.
