HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Big Red field hockey team had ample opportunities, but ran into a hot goalie as Colgate's Maria Krull made 11 saves as the Raiders earned a 1-0 victory this afternoon at Tyler's Field. The win snapped Cornell's four-game winning streak against the Raiders, giving Colgate its first win in the series since 2011.
Cornell (7-5) held the significant edge in shots (14-7) and shots on goal (11-3).
Penalty corners were tied at 3-3, but the Raiders made the most of their chances, with Maggie Lake scoring on the first penalty corner of the game at the 18:23 mark when she tipped Cady Kopsky's shot.
All three of Cornell's penalty corner chances came in the second half, including two in the final eight minutes, but both shots were turned away by Krull.
In goal, the Big Red's
Maddie Henry made two saves.
Cornell is back in action next weekend when it plays host to Brown at Marsha Dodson Field on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11:30 a.m.
