Men's Soccer Falls to Hartwick 2-1 in Double Overtime

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The men's soccer team dropped its final non-conference game of the season to Hartwick in a 2-1 loss in double overtime at Elmore Field on Tuesday night.

Jamie O'Grady scored both goals for the Hawks (6-6-1), starting off with a strike about 12 minutes in to put his team up 1-0 early, and then finished off with the game-winner just a minute and a half into the second overtime period.

Jonathan Cullom got Cornell (6-5-2) on the board in the 40th minute as he notched his first goal of the year to equalize in the first half. The score initially came off of a shot by Tyler Bagley that hit the right post and then Cullom finished it off to make it 1-1.

In the second half, both goalkeeper Mitchell Meyer and Hartwick's Lenny Wilson were on their toes, collecting two saves each to send the game into overtime. The Hawks had several opportune times to win in the first extra period following two consecutive corner kicks that were placed perfectly in front of Cornell's net, but the Big Red defense was relentless, blocking shots and clearing the ball out of danger.

Unfortunately for the team, its luck ran out when O'Grady struck early in the second overtime period to give Hartwick the hard fought 2-1 victory.

The Hawks out-shot Cornell 13-5 while the Big Red had the slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3. Both Meyer and Wilson each tallied three saves. Charles Touche led the squad with two shots, both of which were on goal.

Cornell returns home this Saturday, Oct. 21, to take on Brown for a 4:30 p.m. start at Berman Field.
