Navy Sinks Sprint Football, 49-14

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The sprint football team dropped its second contest of the season, 49-14, against Navy on Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Midshipmen found their rhythm and scored 35 unanswered points through the second and third periods to steer the momentum in their favor.

Navy (5-1, 2-0) was unstoppable in the air, scoring six of its seven touchdowns on passes. The Midshipmen also capitalized on a blocked Cornell (3-2, 1-0) punt at the end of the second quarter, recovering the ball in the Big Red's end zone to propel its lead to 21-0 going into halftime.

Cornell found its way onto the scoreboard midway into the third quarter as Will Griffen rushed 30 yards to the end zone to make it 35-7 after a successful extra point kick by Ben Finkelstein.

The Big Red earned its final points of the contest in the fourth period after Connor Young threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Panhans to cap-off the 49-14 result.

The Big Red's defensive efforts in the first part of the game were stellar, forcing Navy to punt on its first two drives while stopping them on fourth and one on its third possession.

Alfonso Nazzaro and Ian Rawn were standouts as each recorded eight solo tackles. Nazzaro led the team in total tackles with 11 while Rawn was next on the list with nine. Amanze Udebiuwa and Andrew-Gerard Baddoo each collected seven tackles on the day.

Connor Ostrander went six of 14 for passing, tallying 56 yards while Brooks Panhans also received significant reps, completing five of 13 passes for 41 yards. Young and Ostrander also accumulated yardages of 21 and 20 on the ground, respectively.

Jack Nicoletti led the receiving corps with 35 yards on three catches, including a long of 31. Griffen and Young each notched 16 yards in the air as well.

The team returns home to Schoellkopf Field next week to host Army on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m.
