POTSDAM, N.Y. – The No. 9 women's hockey team dropped a tough 6-0 decision to No. 2 Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
Â
The Golden Knights (8-1-1, 2-1-0 ECAC Hockey) used a big three-goal second period to break away from Cornell (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC Hockey). Loren Gabel set the tone just 52 seconds into the frame to open up the scoring while Amanda Titus added in a short-handed goal off of a rebound to make it 2-0 in Clarkson's favor.
Â
Seven minutes later, Michaela Pejzlova put the puck away on a power play to increase the lead to 3-0 heading into the final frame.
Â
The Golden Knights would score three more times in the third period as Rhyen McGill, Kelly Mariana and Gabel all added in goals.
Â
Despite the lopsided result, Cornell started off the day strong, stifling Clarkson's offensive attacks in the first period.
Jaime Bourbonnais was a big weapon in the offensive zone, keeping active at the opposition's net.
The team also won the majority of its face offs, earning possession 31 out of 56 tries.Â
Â
Kristin O'Neill led the team in shots with three while
Devon Facchinato led the team in blocked shots with two.
Â
Marlene Boissonnault recorded 22 saves on the day while
Lindsay Browning also saw some ice time between the pipes, making three saves in her career debut for the Big Red.
Â
The team returns to action next week to host Quinnipiac and Princeton for its home-opening weekend at Lynah Rink. The puck drops against the Bobcats at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3 while Cornell will take on the Tigers at 3 p.m. on Nov. 4.
