ITHACA, N.Y. -- Reigning Collegiate Sprint Football League champ Penn scored a pair of touchdowns within 90 seconds midway through the first half and never looked back, racing out to a 35-0 halftime lead over Cornell en route to a 45-14 win on Friday evening at Schoellkopf Field. The Quakers improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Big Red suffered its first loss of the season in falling to 2-1.
Quaker quarterback Eddie Jenkins completed 16-of-21 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns while running for two more. His favorite targets in the passing game, Aidan Kelly (five catches, 112 yards) and Andrew Sutton (two catches, 100 yards) both had 100-yard receiving games and the powerful Penn offense rang up 473 yards of offense.Â
The Quakers scored 21 unanswered points in the first quarter alone to get off to its quick start. Jenkins opened up the scoring by finding the end zone on a seven-yard run. Linebacker Quinn Karam notched defensive points after he dove into the end zone following a Cornell fumble and Marcus Jones cashed in on a 20-yard pass from Jenkins to close out the first period.Â
Jenkins would score again on a two-yard run in the second quarter and Aiden Kelly would haul in a 44-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-0 going into the half.
However, Cornell would strike first after the break as
Brooks Panhans found his way into the end zone on a two-yard carry to cut the Big Red deficit to 42-7, but the Quakers would come back to score two more times in the game following an 86-yard touchdown reception by Sutton and a 36-yard field goal.Â
The Big Red would cap-off the scoring with a four-yard touchdown run by
Connor Ostrander to finalize the 45-14 result.Â
Ostrander completed 16 of 28 attempts for a total of 178 yards, including a long of 35. The quarterback also led the rushing attack, netting 43 yards on 16 attempts.
Dean Ames was second on the team in rushing, netting 34 yards on the night.
Jack Nicoletti and
Brooks Panhans each had productive receiving nights with Nicoletti tallying seven receptions for 96 yards and Panhans collecting six catches for 73.Â
Alfonso Nazzaro was once again a standout for Cornell's defense, notching 11 total tackles, seven of which were solo.
