Men's Tennis Trio Earns All-Ivy; Tanasoiu Coach of the Year

ITHACA, N.Y. – Silviu Tanasoiu has been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year, and seniors Colin Sinclair and Chris Vrabel, and freshman Lev Kazakov have also been earned All-Ivy League honors for men's tennis, as announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.

Now in his sixth season as the Director of Intercollegiate Tennis and the Savitt-Weiss Head Coach of Men's Tennis, Tanasoiu has built the Big Red back to national prominence and the program's first at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. Cornell is ranked 26th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association heading into its trip to the NCAA Baylor Regional, where it will serve as the second of four seeds and open play at 1 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 12 against Rice. The Big Red won its final six matches of the regular season to improve its record to 21-3 — which is currently the program's second-most in a single season — and a share of its second Ivy League title.

Sinclair earned All-Ivy League first team honors in doubles for a second straight year, having posted a 10-6 record from the top two positions in dual matches. He was 9-4 from the No. 1 spot while paired with either Vrabel or sophomore David Volfson. Vrabel was also named to the All-Ivy League second team in doubles, where he paired with Sinclair to post a 4-1 record in Ivy League competition. A pair of victories over nationally-ranked teams from Princeton and Harvard had the Big Red duo in the national rankings until recently. Vrabel led the team in individual doubles victories with a 12-7 record, including an impressive 9-1 mark from the No. 1 position. This is Vrabel's first career All-Ivy honor.

Just like in 2016, Sinclair was also named to the All-Ivy League second team for singles. He led the team in singles victories with a 16-3 record from the top four spots in the order, including a perfect 13-0 records from the Nos. 3 & 4 positions. He moved up to the higher positions during Ivy play and still posted a 4-3 record in league matches.

Kazakov has also earned a spot on the All-Ivy League second team for singles, where he currently holds on a national ranking of 122nd. He was 12-7 in dual matches with all but two of those contests coming from the top two spots. He was an even 3-3 in Ivy League matches.
