Biography
Senior Season — 2016-17
The Big Red's captain wrapped up a stellar collegiate career as a four-time All-Ivy League honoree. For a second straight year, he was placed on the first team for doubles and second team for singles. Sinclair recorded a spectacular 18-3 record in singles during dual matches, including a perfect 15-0 mark when competing at No. 3 or No. 4. Sinclair was a perfect 13-0 in non-league matches. He defeated a nationally-ranked opponent from Oklahoma on March 12, helping the Big Red record a stunning road victory over a Sooners team that was ranked seventh nationally at the time. His three-set victory on Feb. 26 clinched Cornell's 4-3 victory over Wisconsin. Sinclair also led the team in appearances at No. 1 doubles, where he was 9-5 when competing with David Volfson or Chris Vrabel. He was 10-7 overall at doubles. ... In fall tournaments, Sinclair was 10-4 in singles and 6-3 in doubles. He defeated nationally-ranked Tyler Lu, of Yale, to reach the singles quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional. He was also in the quarterfinals in the doubles portion of that tournament, competing with Volfson.
Junior Season — 2015-16
Sinclair was named to the All-Ivy League first team for doubles and All-Ivy League second team for singles. Sinclair and his exclusive partner, David Volfson, were tied for the team lead in doubles victories with 13 against just six losses in dual matches. The duo was 5-2 record in Ivy matches, with six of those appearances coming at the No. 1 position. They finished the season ranked 62nd in the country and sixth in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, having recorded a victory over another nationally ranked tandem — Penn’s Austin Kaplan and Nicholai Westergaard — during the final weekend of the regular season. Sinclair was also 11-7 overall and 4-2 in Ivy League matches in singles, where he competed primarily at the No. 2 position. He had a win over a nationally-ranked opponent, #92 Lucas Hehjal of St. John’s, on Feb. 12. Sinclair won seven of his final nine matches to be played to completion. ... In fall tournaments, Sinclair was 7-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles. He won the singles Lenz Bracket at the Ivy Plus Tournament, then advanced to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships the following week. Sinclair and Volfson also finished in second place in doubles at regionals.
Sophomore Season — 2014-15
Sinclair had the team's second-best winning percentage in dual singles matches, where he posted a 13-6 record from the Nos. 4 and 5 positions. He was terrific in Ivy League play, racking up a 5-2 record with just one of those matches decided in straight sets. Sinclair also had a sterling 11-3 record in doubles, competing in all but one matches with Sam Fleck. ... In fall tournaments, Sinclair was 7-5 in singles. He advanced to the finals of the White Bracket at the UVa Fall Classic, and into the Round of 64 at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals. He was 4-2 in doubles, including two victories while paired with Stefan Vinti at the Penn Invitational.
Freshman Season — 2013-14
Sinclair was 4-0 in singles and 3-4 in doubles during dual matches. All of his singles matches came from the No. 6 position, including a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Penn's Marshall Sharp in his Ivy League singles debut. After posting a 1-2 record with Jason Luu in non-league doubles matches, Sinclair teamed with Bernardo Casares Rosa to form the Big Red's No. 3 duo for the final six matches of the season. ... Sinclair was 10-2 in singles and 4-3 in doubles during fall tournament play. He advanced to the finals in each of the three tournaments in which he competed, including second-place finishes in the Cordish bracket of the Princeton Invitational and 'C' bracket of the Ivy Plus Invitational. Sinclair then won all four of his matches in straight sets to claim the 'Black' bracket title at the UVA Invitational in early October.
Personal
Colin Sherwood Sinclair is the son of Peter and Kathryn Sinclair, and he has two brothers and one sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
