Five Cornell Alums Named To U.S. Rowing National Team

PRINCETON, N.J. — USRowing has announced that five Cornell alumni are among those selected to compete for the U.S. national team at the 2017 World Rowing Championships, which will be staged Sept. 23 to Oct. 1 in Bradenton, Fla. No other university has more athletes represented on the U.S. world teams than Cornell.

"All of these athletes represented Cornell at the highest level, and they contributed to the successes of each program in the extremely competitive Ivy League and overall collegiate rowing landscape in this country," said Liz Dennison, Cornell's Associate Director of Rowing. "From the coaching staff's point of view, this step to represent the USA on the international level is a very logical follow through of their discipline, tenacity, and work ethic. All of the Big Red coaches, athletes, and alumni are so proud of these individuals!"

Michael Colella '16 has been selected to compete with the men's pair after winning the event in the 2017 U.S. Senior and Para World Championship Trials. He finished fourth in the men's four at the 2016 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

Tracy Eisser '12 will compete in the women's pair after finishing first in the 2017 Spring Speed Order 1. She finished second in the event at World Cup II after competing in quadruple sculls for the last several years — including a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and a gold medal performance at the World Championships in 2015.

Alex Karwoski '12 will continue his tenure with the men's eight, where he finished fourth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. His boat won the Final Olympic Qualifying Regatta that year and took third at World Rowing Cup II. Karwoski spent the past year at his alma mater as an assistant coach for the heavyweight men.

Christopher Lambert-Rodgers '15 has been named to the team in lightweight men's double sculls. A native of Ithaca, N.Y., Lambert-Rodgers won the event in the 2017 U.S. Senior and Para World Championship Trials. He finished 10th in the same event at 2017 World Rowing Cup II after competing for the U.S. in the lightweight quadruple sculls event at the 2016 World Rowing Championships.

Jack Ruske '17 has been named to the men's quadruple sculls team after winning the event at the 2017 U.S. Senior and Para World Championship Trials. He also helped his lightweight men's varsity eight boat to an undefeated season and a gold medal at the EARC Sprints and IRA National Championship regatta earlier this year.
