Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Quinnipiac Shuts Out No. 5 Women’s Hockey, 4-0

HAMDEN, Conn. – No. 5 women's hockey closed out its weekend with a 4-0 loss against Quinnipiac on Saturday night at the Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena. The Bobcats scored three goals in under six minutes in the final period to pull away from Cornell after holding on to a 1-0 lead through the first two frames.

Quinnipiac's Kati Tabin got things started late in the first period, getting the Bobcats on the board with a power play goal. Tabin sent in a wrist shot from the blue line that evaded traffic and found its way across the goal line 16 minutes and 35 seconds in.

Kenzie Lancaster would notch two more scores for the home team, pounding in a rebound 12:46 into the third period while also sending in another just a few minutes later. With 3:40 left in the game, Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout closed out the scoring with an empty netter.

Cornell had a few opportune times to get back into the game as they were on the power play three times. The team had some great looks in front of the opposing net during those minutes, but every shot the Big Red took was either blocked or wide.

As the Big Red was trailing 1-0 early into the third period, the team had some great offensive sequences near the crease, forcing Quinnipiac's Abbie Ives to make some sprawling saves in order to keep the Big Red from getting on the board.

While Cornell was churning out those productive offensive plays, Joie Phelps nearly scored her second goal of the weekend as Ives wasn't able to clear out a shot that she had blasted in, however, as the puck trickled towards the goal line, a Bobcat defenseman swatted it out right before it could pass.

In her second-career start, Lindsay Browning made 20 saves and Ives made 23. Lenka Serdar, Paige Lewis and Maddie Mills each tallied three shots on goal and Erin O'Connor had four blocks.

The game was pretty even in terms of shots with Quinnipiac holding a slight 24-23 advantage with shots on goal while the Big Red led 43-42 in shots attempted.

Cornell is on the road once again as the team travels to Syracuse for a Tuesday night game on Jan. 9. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
