ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's soccer team fell in overtime to Dartmouth 2-1 in its final game at Berman Field of the season. The Big Red dropped to 10-6 on the season and 3-3 in Ivy play, while the Big Green is now 6-5-5 overall and 3-1-2 in league play.
Jonah Kagen had the Big Red's lone goal of the evening, putting in a corner from
Caleb McAuslan. McAuslan sent the ball in far post, where Kagen jumped and struck the ball with his right foot to put the Big Red up 1-0. The goal was the first of Kagen's collegiate career.
Dartmouth had the first of its tallies in the early stages of the second half. Cornell keeper
Andrew Hevener made the initial save on the shot from Eduvie Ikoba, but was unable to coral the ball in. Dartmouth's Braden Salvati put home the loose ball in front of the net to even the score at one in the 47th minute.
Both teams had chances in regulation to take the lead, but both keepers proved strong. In the 81st minute,
Caleb McAuslan had open look, but Dartmouth goalie Chris Palacios made the save. In the 83rd minute, Dartmouth had a sequence of chances that were turned away by Hevener and the members of the Cornell defensive unit.
In overtime, Ikoba put home the game-winner in the 96th minute off a corner kick.
The Big Green fired a total of 23 shots in comparison to Cornell's 11, but both team put the same number of shots on goal with six.
Hevener made his collegiate debut in net, making a total of four saves.
The Big Red has its final regular season game of the year when it travels down to New York City for a 1 p.m. bout with Columbia next Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
