NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The men's tennis team finished in fourth place at the ECAC Indoor Championships on Sunday after a 4-3 loss to Princeton at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
In doubles, junior
David Volfson teamed with sophomore
Joseph McAllister won at No. 3, but Princeton won the top two matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Volfson then rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles to tie the match.
Sophomore
Pietro Rimondini won his second match of the weekend at No. 5 right around the time Princeton wrapped up the match No. 2 to keep the score tied, now at 2-2, to put the balance of the match on the remaining three singles matches.
Princeton struck first by winning at No. 4, then sophomore
Lev Kazakov fought off a loss in the first set to win the third set to tie the score at 3 as junior
Jake Hansen staged a valiant comeback attempt at No. 6. Down 5-0 in the third, Hansen fought off his opponent's service for the match twice before Princeton hung on for the victory.
Cornell (3-5) will take next weekend off before returning to action with a busy March 2-4 weekend in the Midwest. The Big Red will play three matches over those three days against Iowa, Oregon and Wisconsin.
