Kubena Stays Hot, But Big Red Drops Sunday Contest

DE LAND, Fla. – Rebecca Kubena continued her torrid hitting, but Tennessee State ran out to an early lead and cruised to a 9-0 victory on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Hatter Classic. Cornell ended its tournament with a 2-3 record.

Kubena went 2-for-2, upping her season batting average to a robust .900 (9-for-10) in three games, but the Big Red could muster just five hits on the afternoon against TSU. She had a double for the team's lone extra-base hit against Lauren Powell, who threw the complete game shutout. Megan Murray, Kate Jencarelli and Tori Togashin each had base hits in the loss.

Both Kubena and Togashi were named to the all-tournament team.

The Tigers scored three in the first to take control, then added four more in the third and two in the fourth. Katie Schneider was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored, a double, a walk and an RBI.

Cornell will compete this coming weekend at the George Mason Cherry Blossom Classic beginning on Saturday, March 10 at 11 a.m. when it meets Siena. The two-day, four-game event features two games apiece against the Saints and the host Patriots.
