Colgate Wins Snow-Delayed Game On Walk-Off Homer

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Jordan Miller hit a walk-off three-run homer in the eighth inning to give Colgate a 6-3 win over Cornell on Tuesday evening at Eaton Street Field. Cornell dropped to 11-15, while the Raiders improved to 7-23 with the victory.

Bridgette Rooney was 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and both Rebecca Kubena and Megan Murray had a pair of hits for the Big Red. Cora Geunes pitched two perfect innings in relief of Katie Lew, who surrendered just three hits and two runs in four innings. The Big Red pitching staff allowed just six hits in the loss.

Rooney hit solo home runs in both the second and fourth innings, getting the Big Red on the board first and then tying the score at 2-2. Rebecca Kubena put the Big Red into the lead with an RBI single up the middle later in the inning.

The Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with some two-out magic by Virginia Irby, whose single knotted the game at 3-3. After a 34-minute snow delay that looked more like a mini-blizzard, the Raiders' Miller slammed a shot to right for the walk-off win.

The Big Red returns to action this coming weekend when it visits Dartmouth for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 at 12:30 p.m.
