Early Offense Leads Dartmouth Softball To Sweep of Cornell

HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth took early leads in both ends of the doubleheader and swept Cornell softball by scores of 8-4 and 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth Softball Park. The Big Red fell to 11-17 (6-5 Ivy), while the Big Green improved to 14-14 (8-3 Ivy).

Game One
Both Megan Murray and Rebecca Kubena each had a pair of hits in the loss, with Kubena scoring twice. Erin Rockstroh and Tori Togashi each had a hit and a walk to reach base twice. Cora Geunes came out of the bullpen in relief of Lisa Nelson and surrendered just one run and two hits in the final two innings.

The Big Green pounded out 10 hits, including breaking a scoreless tie in the third with four consecutive solo home runs from the top of the order to open the game up. Dartmouth ultimately led 7-0 before the Big Red broke through with four runs, two against winning pitcher Breanna Etheridge.

Game Two
For the second straight contest, Dartmouth built a 7-0 lead after four innings en route to a 7-2 triumph. Freshman Katie Hale had a two-run single in the seventh for the Big Red in the loss - her first collegiate hit in her first at bat.

Cornell scratched out just five hits in the nightcap behind Katie Lew and Maddie Orcutt, who surrendered five hits and one run over the final three innings of work. Dartmouth had 13 hits in the contest and used a five-run first frame to take control early.
