PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Penn used big innings early to sweep a Saturday doubleheader from the Big Red by scores of 12-1 in five innings and 7-0 in the nightcap at Penn Park. Cornell slipped to 11-20 (6-8 Ivy), while the Quakers improved to 13-19 (8-8 Ivy).
Game One
Rebecca Kubena homered, but a pair of six-run innings lifted the Quakers to a 12-1 victory. Eric Rockstroh and Tori Togashi each added a hit in the loss.
Big Red pitching surrendered 12 runs, but just five were earned after a pair of costly errors. Tabitha Dyer was 3-for-3 with a home run and three BRI and Jurie Joyner drove in four runs in the victory. In the circle, Mason Spichiger went the distance, allowing three hits and one run.
Game Two
Tori Togashi was 3-for-3, but a Big Red error allowed Penn to score four unearned runs in a 7-0 Quaker victory to complete the doubleheader sweep. That was all Abigail Abramson needed for a complete game, six-hut shutout to improve to 5-6 on the year.
Five different Penn batters had a pair of hits, with game one hero Tabitha Dyer going 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
The two teams will square off for game three tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
