Women’s Rowing Comes Up Short On Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. – No. 11 Brown swept all five races to remain undefeated in the Dunn Bowl, given to the winner of the majority of the three NCAA events - the varsity eight, the second varsity eight and the varsity four.  Navy rowed as a guest in the competition.

The Big Red's best finish of the day came in the second varsity eight and the varsity 4+ B, taking second behind the Bears, but ahead of the Midshipmen.

Navy took second in the varsity eight and the varsity four, behind Brown but ahead of Cornell.

COACH'S CORNER - BARNEY WILLIAMS
On a near perfect day for racing on the Cayuga Inlet the Cornell women's crews delivered their strongest performances of the season against traditional powerhouse Brown and up-and-coming Navy. It is always special to race on your home course and with this being the only home race of the season the athletes expressed satisfaction with the idea of leaving it all on the water. With only three weeks until the Ivy Championships we were not in a position to pull back on the intensity in training this week and the crews displayed a strong resiliency in the second half of the races to not back away in the face of fatigue.

Congratulations to Brown for defending the Dunn Bowl and to Navy for some excellent racing in all boat classes. This set of races was another step forward for the squad and has set the tone for some very competitive racing with Dartmouth this coming weekend as the teams battle for the Parents Cup. It was wonderful to see so many alumni and parents on site for both the racing and the Senior Day presentations that followed. To have the chance to defend the Inlet alongside the heavyweight men was another highlight and it was encouraging to see the comradery between the two programs both on and off the water.

UP NEXT
The Big Red wraps up the cup season next weekend when it travels to Hanover, N.H., to race Dartmouth for the Parents Cup on Saturday, April 28.
